Madame By P. D. Fox - Inspirations

"Madame is collection of Drawings that celebrate the modern woman in all her strength, independence and uniqueness."

My whole life, I enjoyed to draw people, I do believe that human beings are beautiful in their uniqueness. However, the face of a woman has so many stories to tell and I would like to bring it in that collection.

I grew up surrounded by strong and independent women, and since my young age, I was aware of the woman situation in our society. I am born in Brazil, a wonderful country but so misogyny, and where woman are only exalted by their body (strongly sexualized), as a teenager my biggest fear was to suffer a sexual assault going back home from school or walking alone on the streets. Thank God, it didn't happen to me, but no all the girls were lucky enough. I went from a culture that exalts the sexuality of the young girls ("novinha"), to a culture where the feminist ideas were broadly expanded. I moved to France in 2010 and I met wonderful women so independent, full of energy, smart and that didn't bow down their heads to man just because they are men.

As I grew up in life and I progress in my studies, I get more and more interested in the image of the woman in society. Maybe because my mum was always so independent and smart in what she does, that the image of the woman represents a lot of strength and force. Women can bear so much pain physically, emotionally and socially, even though we didn't give up, we keep strong and we still fighting for our rights!

Madame by P. D. Fox is a way that I found to represent different types of women showing all their beauty. Yes, beauty! But what do I mean by beauty? I am not talking about physical beauty, because this is subjective (even if society imposes to us a beauty stereotype). Beauty for me is composed of the story that every human being carry in their faces, some stories are funny, others tragic, but all come together to tell us the story of our lives.

For this first number of Madame by P. D. Fox, I chose four characters that I'll develop in other posts:

Madame Madame: some people can call her fat, but you know what? This won't stop her to wear her fancy clothes and abuse of patterns, even if fashionistas say that it makes her look bigger!

Madame Tropical: She is a black woman and her beauty is not exotic at all! She goes where she wants and none can talk anything about her hair!

Madame Fashion: she makes me think of Parisien women, to be more specific Parisien mothers that are running all the time to take care of their kids, they are rock stars in their jobs, some are running their own company but they are always aware of what is going on in the fashion industry!

Madame Scientist: she is modern, she doesn't care about people say about her and she is a fucking scientist!

I desire to make a collection that is for everyone! From the girl who loves makeup and fashion magazines to the woman who doesn't care about the social aesthetics impositions. To be honest, I can see myself in all of them and I hope you too!

I hope you enjoy the collection and stay aware of what will come next!
